The units built by Ross Stephens called Rayville Boat Houses are a tribute to these men who risked their own lives to save those of others. Each of the ten units are named after one of these men. It probably needs to go unsaid but Mr Stephens' father as one of the men who travelled in their own small vessels to Cape Otway. The original property which still stands on 9 Noel Street as the managers residence was built by Mr Len Stephens (Ross' father) and has been named Rayville since the rescue.
The City of Rayville was an American ship that went down off the coast of Cape Otway after hitting a mine laid by German Raider boats. Nine fisherman from the Apollo Bay community went to the rescue of the crew of this destroyed ship
